Pick Up, Throw Down: Charm City Roller Girls’ Open ScrimmagePosted: 02/21/2012
The Charm City Roller Girls proudly announce the return of Pick Up, Throw Down, a mixed-level open scrimmage practice specifically designed for local athletes and officials to play roller derby in a low-pressure environment.
Pick up, Throw Down is open to men and women age 18 or older who are able to pass the WFTDA minimum skills assessment and cleared by their home league to scrimmage. Participants must sign an insurance waiver and are encouraged to have their own medical coverage. In addition, each participant must wear full protective gear that includes elbow and knee pads, wrist guards, a helmet and a mouth guard. Quad roller skates are also required.
This year’s open scrimmages are March 17 and July 21. Both sessions are at Skateland North Point in Baltimore from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $15 if purchased in advance online and $25 at the door. Non-skating officials and referees who plan to officiate during the session will receive admission at no cost, but should still plan to register ahead of time by e-mailing Bianca Dunk at firstname.lastname@example.org . Registration closes 48 hours prior to each event. Participating skaters should visit http://fanclub.missiontix.com/ccrg/ to reserve a spot.
The Charm City Roller Girls (CCRG) is Baltimore's only all-female flat track roller derby league. CCRG is a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association and is proudly skater owned and operated.
